Stephen Secrest
Vice President of Geoscience
About Me
Stephen Secrest leads the geoscience team at Ezekiel Exploration. Stephen has more than 15 years of experience working with and leading teams across New Ventures, Business Development, and Operations in both upstream and midstream roles. As a geologist who began his education in mechanical engineering, Stephen is a firm believer that the best answers are found through a cross-functional approach.
Stephen’s experience in the oil and gas industry is unique in both its breadth and diversity. Before joining Ezekiel Exploration, he worked with a variety of companies, including privately held and private equity-backed organizations. His experience spans the Permian, Anadarko, Powder River, Green River, Bakken, South Texas, and East Texas Basins, covering everything from helium exploration to full-scale field development.
Most recently, Stephen managed the geoscience team at EnCap-backed PetroLegacy Energy, where his work helped lay the foundation for what would become the Dean play in the northern Midland Basin. Under his leadership of the operations team, the company expanded to more than 25,000 acres and drilled more than 100 horizontal wells across 13 stratigraphic targets in seven separate formations.
Stephen’s focus on integrating a multidisciplinary approach to achieve the greatest possible efficiency led to high-water marks in cost efficiency, operational speed, and well performance, many of which stand as basin records to this day. This aggressive delineation strategy helped drive the value of EnCap’s assets, culminating in a $4.275 billion divestiture in 2023.
Personally, Stephen believes that Christ must be at the center of all we do. He serves on the board of Called2Tell Ministries and as a local elder at one of Hope Rock Church’s campuses in Central Texas. He is a proud husband and father who strives to disciple others and to be discipled at all times.
